By Niamh Kennedy | CNNWomen across Iceland – including the prime minister – will go on strike Tuesday as part of a campaign pushing for greater gender equality in the country. This will be the seventh time that women in Iceland strike in the name of gender equality, campaign organizers said on their official website. The first strike took place on October 24, 1975.“On 24 October, all women in Iceland, including immigrant women, are encouraged to stop work, both paid and unpaid. For the whole day, women (and non-binary people) will strike, to demonstrate the importance of their contribution to society,” organizers said. The strike, which is known as the “Women’s Day Off” or “Kvennafrí” in Icelandic, hopes to raise awareness about the “systemic” wage discrimination and gender-based violence faced by women in Iceland, according to organizers.Icelandic Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir told Icelandic news site Iceland Monitor on Friday that she will not work on the strike day and expects...Last KISS: Saying farewell to band with a look back at its biggest moments

By Lisa Mascaro | Associated PressWASHINGTON — Day 20 without a House speaker, and Republicans found themselves starting over on Monday — bumbling ahead with few ideas about who will lead, what they are fighting over and when they will get Congress working again.Nine lower-level Republican lawmakers are now running to be speaker, leader of the House and second in line to the presidency — none with any clear shot for the gavel. Senior-most is Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota, the former campaign chief who is now the GOP whip. The gruff former hockey coach is disliked by Donald Trump, but the two apparently spoke over the weekend.Late Monday, House Republicans are retreating behind closed doors, as they have most days since the ouster of Kevin McCarthy, to hear from the candidates ahead of internal party voting.McCarthy himself calls the whole spectacle “embarrassing” for the House Republicans whose majority is being wasted away and for the U.S. government that cannot fully fun...SF-bound Alaska Airlines plane diverted to Portland Airport after 'credible threat'

However, according to pest control giant Orkin, San Francisco also has a serious problem with the troublesome rodents.Orkin has released its annual list of America’s “rattiest” cities, and the City by the Bay landed in the number five spot.Chicago was number one for the ninth consecutive year. Los Angeles was No. 2, San Diego was No. 28 and Sacramento was 33rd.The rankings, Orkin says, are not based on the number of rats in the city or any official count (as if that were possible), but instead are drawn from “the number of new rodent services” - meaning how often they're called to deal with rat infestation.“Rodents multiply swiftly and when an infestation is left unattended, they can cause extensive damage to homes and yards,” Ben Hottel, an Orkin entomologist, said in a news release announcing the 2023 list. “Rats are capable of squeezing into spaces through ho...Latest news
