MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. — A customer has filed a lawsuit against the fast casual chain Chopt over a salad that she says contained a piece of the manager’s finger. The lawsuit filed Monday by Allison Cozzi of Greenwich, Connecticut, alleges that she bought a salad at a Chopt location in Mount Kisco, New York, on April 7, 2023, and realized while eating it that “she was chewing on a portion of a human finger that had been mixed in to, and made a part of, the salad.”According to the suit, a manager at the restaurant accidentally severed a piece of her left pointer finger while chopping arugula. The manager went to the hospital but the contaminated arugula was served to customers including Cozzi, the lawsuit says.Westchester County health department records show that Chopt was fined $900.Related ArticlesCrime and Public Safety | Letters: Delay decision | Stand by Biden | War and climate | Lee for Senate | No comparison Crime and Public Safety | Why environmentalists ...San Jose State’s Brennan sidesteps Oregon State rumors, says Spartans ‘devastated’ by Mountain West title game snub

San Jose State coach Brent Brennan said Monday night his team was “devastated” after a computer tiebreaker left the Spartans out of this weekend’s Mountain West championship game, and sidestepped questions about his candidacy in Oregon State’s head coach search.Brennan, who was the Beavers’ wide receivers coach from 2011-2016, did not address his potential interest as Jonathan Smith’s successor, but said having his name linked to the Power 5 opening was a sign that the SJSU program is heading in the right direction.“Oregon State was a really special place to be for my family,” Brennan said Monday. “I think people reaching out to us about stuff like that means we’re doing something right here.”The Spartans (7-5, 6-2 MW) ended the regular season with a six-game winning streak and are going to a bowl for the second year in a row – the first time SJSU has done that since 1986-87.SJSU finished in a three-way tie with UNLV (9-2, 6-2 MW) and Boise State (7-5, 6-2 MW) but was the odd ...Bay Area tech layoffs pass grim milestone with new Qualcomm job cuts

The Washington Supreme Court on Tuesday granted an emergency stay in the Pac-12’s ongoing legal fight that further delays attempts by Washington State and Oregon State to take control of the conference’s governing board. But the ruling was issued by the Supreme Court’s commissioner, not the judges on the court. As a result, WSU and OSU plan to appeal directly to the judges and request that they remove the stay to allow a critical preliminary injunction to take effect. That injunction, granted last month by a lower court, gave WSU and OSU control of the Pac-12 board and the financial assets that are vital to the schools left behind in the realignment game. The court commissioner’s ruling also set Dec. 12 as the deadline for all motions in the case. At that point, or soon thereafter, the Supreme Court judges will decide whether to take the case for review. In other words, a barrage of motions and stays are unfolding before the plaintiffs (the remaining ‘Pac-2...‘I can’t do a lot of things, but I can do this’: How one woman is stepping up for migrant children with disabilities

It is not easy to let someone else hold your child, especially if your child requires special medical care.No one knows this better than the person cradling the girl, Mary Otts-Rubenstein, a Lakeview resident who has her own child with disabilities. Otts-Rubenstein has taken it upon herself to help over a dozen migrant families with medically complex kids enroll in CPS.The children range in age from 7 to 13. By Lindsay Whitehurst | Associated PressWASHINGTON — Hunter Biden offered Tuesday to testify publicly before Congress, striking a defiant note in response to a subpoena from Republicans and setting up a potential high-stakes face-off even as a separate special counsel probe unfolds and his father, President Joe Biden, campaigns for reelection. The Democratic president’s son slammed the subpoena’s request for closed-door testimony, saying it can be manipulated. But Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, stood firm, saying Republicans expect “full cooperation” with their original demand for a deposition.Hunter Biden’s lawyer called the inquiry a “fishing expedition,” a response in line with the more forceful legal approach he’s taken in recent months as congressional Republicans pursue an impeachment inquiry seeking to tie his father to his business dealings. The early-November subpoenas to Hunter Bide...Robert De Niro also blasted John Wayne for calling Native Americans ‘selfish’

Donald Trump wasn’t the only controversial cultural figure on the receiving end of Robert De Niro’s ire, as the two-time Oscar winner delivered a blistering speech at the Gotham Independent Film Awards Monday. The 80-year-old De Niro also slammed the long-dead John Wayne, suggesting that the star of Hollywood Westerns was anything but an exemplar of positive American values. In fact, De Niro invoked racist statements Wayne made in an infamous 1971 Playboy interview to suggest to the audience that his own Hollywood film industry has long participated in the dishonesty and racism that he believes marked Trump’s presidency and thrives with the former president’s MAGA conservative politics.“The entertainment industry isn’t immune to this festering disease,” De Niro said, after complaining that organizers of the awards ceremony edited his speech, excising criticism he wanted to make of Trump and of Hollywood.John Wayne is seen in Mexico filming in 1967. Israel came under pressure from the United States to better protect Palestinian civilians in Gaza if its offensive resumes. The latest swap of hostages for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel got underway Tuesday evening. Israel said 10 of its citizens and 2 foreigners were freed by Hamas and had entered Egypt.Mediators met in Qatar to try to extend the cease-fire beyond Wednesday.
